iPad Orchestra

I can't front.  I really thought the iPad was worthless when it was first introduced.  Needless to say I feel more like a dummy as the days go by.  Sort of like my Slaughterhouse lovefest, just in reverse.  the possibilities are truly endless with this thing.

If Big K.R.I.T is the future of hip hop, the genre is in good hands.  Download his mixtape here.  It's free, and it's dope.  The visuals were provided by Creative Control, and you already know how they get down.

U-N-I "Black Sky"

Bad relationships make for dope music.  Trust me I'm an expert in that field.  Left Coast duo U-N-I drop crisp visuals from their opus A Love Supreme 2.0.  If you're sleeping on the duo i suggest you wake the hell up.

Big Sean- Supa Dupa

I can't fathom why Big Sean would drop a video to this song almost 2 years after the mixtape dropped.  But whatever, the song is dope.  This is one of my favorite tracks off Finally Famous.  Big Sean effortlessly displays the flow that Drake oh so conveniently jacked.  Show em how its done young man.

Fresh Digs | Choice 45's (Part 1)

This is the first installment of a series titled 'Fresh Digs'. I hope to enlighten readers to some of the more interesting pieces of wax I stumble across along my search for fresh records. This edition will feature 45's, but in the future I may include LP's as well. Enjoy!

After buying used records for a while, I have found that my tastes have become more varied and open than ever before. The process of searching, purchasing, listening and learning from unknown, abundant caches of discarded records has changed my relationship with music and given me the ability to expand on my musical preferences.

Give it a shot!

This funk track from 1972 is slamming! Whats not to love? Great drums, guitar, and bass come together to create the foundation for what almost sounds like early rap vocals on top. Soul food never sounded so delicious! I scored this promo version of the 7”, and unlike some other records featured today, I had to pay a pretty penny to land this copy. The original label looks like this.

Classic b-boy material! This is an awesome cover of the popular Manu Dibango song. The two are pretty similar and nearly interchangeable in my mind. I have yet to land a copy of the lp, so when I saw the 45 for cheap and in clean condition, it was a no-brainer to cop and add to the crates.

Taken from the lp of the same name, this 45 is one of many sweet soul gems released by The Lost Generation on the Brunswick label. Their sound is beautifully lush and the orchestral swells and vocals lay like a pat of butter on hotcakes. I could listen to this all day!

This is a blazing funk rock instrumental from Bill Deal & The Rhondels. The drums in this track are hard as nails! I have a couple other 45's from this outfit, and while they are all pretty strong, the band covers a lot of different ground with their sound. Definitely something to keep an eye out for!

Black Ice is a relatively forgotten East Coast group that never really made it big. However, this track sounds pretty strong and holds up well against other groups that were around at that time. I'm always a sucker for slappin' disco bass!

Collect, and listen to them all!

A Fresh Take on Justin Bieber

Okay, I'm not gonna hate, but I will say that I have yet to find the time to check out any material released by the teen pop sensation… other than the songs that have been unavoidable on the radio.

However, after stumbling across this particular version of dude’s song ‘U Smile’, slowed down 800% from the original by Shamantis, I realize that perhaps all it takes is a fresh perspective to make something go from mundane to completely insane.

The finished work sounds epic, surreal, and mind-bendingly beautiful.
