ABOVE | Help Thy Neighbor

A well known artist once said, "Art is not what you see, but what you make others see..". As you sit and sip your warm Chai Tea, ponder that for a moment. That quote is a poetic way of describing the amount of selflessness that goes in to creating a good piece of work, and the influence that work has over us all. ABOVE is dope. No question about that. But it's always refreshing to see an artist make their work bigger than themselves, and actually engage people by allowing them to see something beyond art for art sake. Once again, love the simplicity, love the location, and love the devotion to conveying a bigger and meaningful story. His latest work HELP THY NEIGHBOR takes place in Cuba. It tells the story of Cuba reaching out to help its fallen Neighbor, Haiti.

"ABOVE is dope"??

"ABOVE" seems a bit ignorant asking the repressed cuban people to help haiti. BY THE WAY CLOSE TO THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE HAVE BRUTALLY MURDERED BY THE CUBAN GOVERNMENT.

By that same notion "America should help America period" too I guess? Let's not be so blinded by the politics that we lose sight of those that ARE willing to "help thy neighbor". Just a thought

Completely agree! What are the cubans going to offer? they barely have food or medical supplies for themselves!

A government, such as Fidels, executing its own people is beyond politics.

can't see how you can possibly disregard that.

This was never about "giving credit to Cuba blah blah blah" this was about an artist who is using his craft to spread a positive message. Yeah it's a shame that's it's shrouded by death murder and mayhem. No one is denying that at all. But there are those who are using their talent to spread a message of peace. That's the point. Period.

I don't really understand how people got caught up in the fact that the portait was done in Cuba and not about the fact that ABOVE used his art to convey a message about "selflessness." Maybe I'm missing something here....
