that was really lame...

i like it

LOL way to be constructive Alvaro. You have to see that the execution of these photos are brilliantly well done and believable. It actually touches on the original propaganda-ish roots of comics and comic book heroes on a conceptual level.

October 15, 2009 | Registered CommenterPrescription Fresh

well, it WOULD have been cool if the superheroes were more engaging in the situation rather than, you know, standing there. Just an example of a good idea in theory, but not so much in practice.

October 15, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterTaylurk

That was lame because it looses its power since everyone can see its Brandon Routh from SuperMan Returns, Michael Keaton (or Clooney maybe?), Cristian Bale and Tobbey McGuire, so its really just an easily done photoshop and not strong conceptualy at all.
It would be good it the pictures were taken reconstructing them but with the extra characters, rather than just photoshepped in.

Alvaro Efe: you're a moron. Neither the batman, nor the spiderman are the people you say they are. Try obscuring the top-half of batman's head so you can only see the chin: clearly not any of the stars you've suggested.

October 15, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterDave

neither the *first* batman nor the spiderman, should i say. The last is clearly Bale.

October 15, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterDave

Hey, no need to call names ppl, I'm just saying its neither well excecuted nor brilliant!
Things like these pop up every other day on photoshopping contest sites like Worth1000 and etc.
Its my opinion and calling me a moron for it is very moronic.

October 15, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAlvaro Efe

Lets keep the peace people. Name calling is truly not fresh.

October 15, 2009 | Registered CommenterFresh Since 1981

I think the idea is brilliant!

October 15, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterangelus

it's mad genius. i'm not so down with all this name calling either, you got better stuff then lets see it. but this is the freshest stuff i've seen in a while.

October 15, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAlex

sweeeet. i wish i had this idea.... masterpieces!

I've got to somewhat agree with Alvaro on this one. I'm no photoshop whiz, but technically these look pretty solid. I just find them abit 'clunky' with how these well known poses are just plunked in the scene.

Having said that, the idea is fantastic and i'd love to see it taken abit further. The Superman image for me looks more natural than the others as everyone in the scene is in a pose position to coincide with Routh's.

Hope to see more.

October 16, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAdriean

The second Batman looks like the imposter from the Scarecrow scene in The Dark Knight. Still, a lot better photoshop job than the Alvaro chap gives the poster credit for

October 16, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterJay

I enjoyed this, good work.

October 16, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterMarita

eh, they are "ok", they seem really forced, might be cooler if they wer emore obscure shots of them in action helping out the soldiers or like making their exit.

It's easy to criticize when the concept isn't yours, but I gotta say that regardless of the negative opinions, this was clever - possibly inspired by the first 4 minutes of the recent WatchMen film. I think it was very well done. Alvaro - I would suggest you are mindful of your words when constructively critiquing other artist. We are all passionate about our craft and can't imagine we would like anyone referring to our art as lame, even when someone's vision is different than ours.

Excellent work, Agan. Please keep sharing

October 16, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterSantana

I'd prefer Captain America instead of Superman - would work better.

Nevertheless - great work!

October 16, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterPhilipp

I agree with Alvero too. Nice idea, but it could have been taken further. The characters really dont look as though they are a part of the scene. The costuming also doesnt fit in. Creating the wardrobe ala original Watchmen would have been a nice touch.

The photo of Batman and Spider-man are definitely the strongest, both visually and in composition. Because of the subject and the presentation (in black and white) these photos were immediately suspect, though the manipulation is actually very well done. There's something about the middle two photos that is much more believable then the first and last, and I believe it to be the familiarity of the faces (which someone had touched on before) Also the placement of a figurehead (like Superman or Batman) amongst anonymous soldiers truly captures the spirit of the actual characters themselves. When you put Christian Bale with (Che.. or Castro?) It loses it's subtly and mystery.

Well done!

October 17, 2009 | Unregistered Commentersupermitten

I am delighted by the images, and somewhat amused by the fact that my first response was, "Superman and Batman were around during WW2, but Spider-Man wasn't."

I concur with various comparisons with the opening credits of "Watchmen", and would really like to see a superhero movie set during WW2.

supermitten, it is indeed Castro, not Guevara. Excuse me for saying that's a rather elementary mistake for you to make.

October 19, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterDr. Psycho

The idea isn't exactly original or fresh. Wartime superheroes was common during WW2. And just as someone said it works for Batman and Superman. But I would rather have seen Spiderman in Vietnam.

By the way, the image of Spiderman is the worst. That suit looks like something you rent for a costume party.

October 19, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterMacdeath

Wow people, try not to overthink it.

I found this lightheartedly entertaining, and much needed on an otherwise poopy Monday. Thank you.

Isn't it unfair to make promotion with content from other blogs????

October 19, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterStef

Im not sure if I follow Stef? But rest assured, we at Prescription Fresh cite all sources of Artists' work and content from other blogs. Even Hypebeast (which we love)...why? Because stealing is not FRESH

Anyone who doesn't like this is an idiot. Cool idea, and well executed. Good job!

October 19, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterIan Explosivo

this is very nice :)

October 19, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterTiffany Kwan

Meh, i miss Mister Hitler in these. Would be cool to see Superman next to him.

You're missing Professor X at the Big Three Conference.

October 20, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterJack Zulkey

That's because Superman and Batman WERE around during World War II, and Spider-Man was not. Superman and Batman wre spawned by the Depression, and Spidey is a child of the 1960s.

October 21, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterDan Hagen

Really liking your pictures... Make me want more!
They fit just great with superhero song in the background...

really nice. specially the one with fidel castro giving a speech. that was bizarre and brilliant.

November 3, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterEli

Uhh, the only photo where the hero is "just standing there" and not serving a purpose is the spiderman photo. In the first, superman looks like he helped rescue those painting from Nazi hands (or whatever), in one it looks as if batman is visiting the troops, and in one, batman looks as if he brought Fidel to justice.
Your thought never struck me, perhaps because I was thinking.

Expand this even more, way 2 COOL, include Marvel comics in mix.
Add Color shots & include:

WW1, Korean War, Vietnam, 1930s US, 1960s UK, Russia, OR use 'time travel' & have heroes in Rev War America, French Rev, Civil War, Franko Prussian War, War of the Roses, The Crusades,
Dark Ages, Roman era,
Wow

& doable with CG & art & archieves.

Make more volumes.

Use in TV & DVD ads alone.
